Is Anwar really a freedom of speech believer? (Pic by Hussein Shaharuddin)
As soon as the news of opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim refusal to share the same stage with blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin broke out, the blogosphere questioned Anwar’s sincerity on democracy and freedom of speech.
Blogger Outsyed the Box today said Anwar had described his definition of democracy really from his latest action.
He wrote: “Today we see Raja Petra Kamarudin (RPK) also being hit with a gag order. Anwar Ibrahim does not want RPK to appear on the same talk show with him.”
“This is their democracy. I tell you democacy will die if these people come to power.”
Another blog post at The KL Chronicle echoed similar sentiment by asking “does Anwar really believe in free speech? If so, why is he silencing his critics?”
