KUALA LUMPUR: Pas secretary-general Datuk Mustafa Ali said Opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has explained (to Pas) regarding a video clip of his speech allegedly criticising Pas leaders.
Mustafa said Anwar's explanation was that his remarks which was taken as criticising Pas leaders were actually his (Anwar's) narration of what Umno leaders had said of Pas leaders.
Mustafa said he himself met the Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) de-facto leader over the issue.
He was commenting on the various blogs that have uploaded a video clip of which showed Anwar criticising Pas president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and Pas spiritual leader Datuk Nik Abdul Aziz Nik Mat, when attending a Chinese New Year celebration in Sabah last week.
The video which was initially posted at DKM Sabah showed Anwar as saying "that even Nik Aziz did not understand about Islam nowadays and Hadi will only follow Pas’ decision pertaining to the issue in the usage of the word “Allah” to non-Muslims."
Speaking to The Mole, Mustafa said: “I met Datuk Seri Anwar on Sunday and he has already explained to me on the matter.”
“During the meeting Anwar has explained that he was only quoted Umno’s criticisms against Nik Aziz and Tuan Hadi. He was only repeating what Umno have said against both leaders.”
“It was not his (Anwar) own opinion,” Mustafa added.
Mustafa also believed the video was edited and did not show the whole speech.
“They are only showing parts of it. This is just another attempt to create rifts between us and Anwar,” said Mustafa.
Following Anwar’s explanation Mustafa said the video is considered a non-issue and that it will not affect Pas and PKR's ties.
Howevrr, a blog post at The Unspinners stated the speech showed how Anwar tried to save himself by manipulating the issue of word “Allah” to his advantage.
