KUALA LUMPUR: The Mentri Besar makes the final decision for the Kedah Government despite the presence of the Pas steering committee, claims state executive council member S. Manikumar.
He claims the Pas steering committee is not interfering in the Kedah Government administration.
Manikumar told The Mole: “The Pas committee is an advisory body to the state and at the end of the day the Mentri Besar (Datuk Seri Azizan Abdul Razak) makes the final decision on policies based on views of those in the state government."
Asked whether the Pas steering committee would limit the powers of non-Pas exco members, Manikumar said: “Absolutely not. When it comes to the administration of the state government we are full participants,’’ he said.
Manikumar who is Bukit Selambau assemblyman also said: “We are performing our duties, we attend meetings, meet the public, listen to their grouses, speak out and present our ideas at state meetings.
“The cold war between two state councillors, Datuk Phahrolrazi Zawawi and Datuk Dr Ismail Salleh which led to a setting up of a steering committee by Pas will equally be an advisory body if there should be any dispute in the state.’’
In a news report, MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek questioned Pas for setting up a steering committee to administer the state government and said he was puzzled why Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) and DAP choose to keep silent.
Kedah PKR head Ahmad Kasim responded to Dr Chua’s statement stating it was not true.
“I have presented my views at state level meetings and had them approved by the Mentri Besar and I do not think the Pas committee is getting in the way of the state government leadership,’’ he said when contacted.
“The MB balances all our views in proper order, we are free to debate and advise him (Azizan) on certain policies or issues, ‘’ said Ahmad who is also Kuala Kedah MP.
