KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's investment opportunities and economic lures were among the main highlights in a presentation by Minister of International Trade and Industry Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed at a roundtable meeting on Wednesday in Zurich.

The event jointly hosted by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) and the Switzerland-Asian Chamber of Commerce was attended by 40 Swiss corporate figures from high-tech industries such as precision engineering, pharmaceutical and aerospace as well as representatives from the banking sector.

"In his presentation, Mustapa maintained that political stability, excellent infrastructure, business-friendly policies and strong support and assistance from MIDA are the key reasons that make Malaysia a preferred destination for foreign investors," the ministry said in a statement on Thursday.

Realised investments by Swiss companies in Malaysia to date stand at USD1.1 billion (US$1=RM3.05).

Mustapa is leading a two-day investment mission to Zurich from Jan 25-26 to seek quality investments from technology-driven companies that provide high-income employment.

"Two such companies are in the advanced stage of investing in Malaysia," the ministry said.
