Rocky’s Bru has announced that The Mole will be going live at midnight, in conjunction with Malaysia Day. Read his take here.
The Mole has indeed been a work-in-progress for the past two years and will continue to be so given the dynamic nature of the new media.
But what is important is that The Mole, being a blog newspaper, essentially meaning that its main source would be the blogs, hopes to be able to take the blogosphere to a higher level.
If blogs had at one time been the additional if not the source of information, some have now evolved to be the dispenser of disinformation, rumours, and half-truths if not outright lies.
Some blogs have grown from strength to strength to be credible; others have degenerated into a tool to exact malice and ill will.
The Mole believes that it has a role to play amid the chatter and above the din of the social media.
It will verify reports floating in the blogosphere and present them to its readers as news pieces that observe journalistic ethics and conventions.
In short, The Mole will marry the exciting, adrenaline-pumping social media with the wisdom and time-tested conventions of credible, old-school journalism.
We believe it is a path worth exploring and we would like you, our readers, to join in.
And so the journey begins.
