I think this multi-racial scheme is fantastic. A little bit late, like maybe more than 30 years late, but still it is better to be late than never.
The MCA is a political party which (by its name) represents Chinese interests. Hence this effort by the MCA to set up a micro credit scheme which also helps other races including Malays and Indians is a major step in the right direction. I do hope that more Malays and Indians are selected for this micro credit assistance.
It is also more likely that this micro credit scheme will be better managed. I don't think anyone will be buying lembu condos with the money they get from the MCA's micro-credit scheme.
I dont see this Microcredit scheme as merely a financial operation by the MCA to help small businesses. More importantly in the Malaysian context, this scheme by the MCA is a giant leap in confidence building, building bridges between the races in Malaysia and in developing that most precious commodity of all called "trust". It is simply 'gua caya lu'. I trust you.
If the MCA had done this 30 years ago, I am sure in no time the Gerakan would have done the same thing (Its still not too late for the Gerakan). Who knows maybe the DAP too would have done the same thing. I believe the entire face of planet earth would have changed.
Maybe the New Economic Policy too would have taken a different route if it was seen that the Chinese community (which controls the economy of the country) would stop, of its own accord, and help the Malays, bumiputras and Indians achieve economic betterment.
If we all just stop and help each other, it will do wonders for our country.
